Week 10 (April 5 – 11)

This week will be a prep week for Essay 3 (rough draft of which will be due next week, April 18; Essay 4 rough draft will be due the following week, April 25). I will be making some comments on your proposal posts early this week (hope to finish by Tuesday, April 6).

For this week, you’ll have two things to post (due by Sunday, April 11):

  • an annotated bib of possible sources (at least 6)
  • a journal-type post giving your thoughts to date about what will be sections of essay (see below)

=======================================

  1. Start looking for some sources you can use for your argument for Essay 3. On your blog construct and post an annotated bib listing at least six sources you think might be useful for the essay (note that the essay requires a minimum of four sources, from credible college-level sources).  I strongly encourage you to check out the research databases and/or google scholar for some academic research on your topic. The annotated bib should include the MLA citation for the source and a brief description of what information the source includes (not a full summary, but a sentence or two about what info the source contains that might be useful for your argument). This page from UNC’s Writing Center gives an overview of Annotated bibliographies.
  2. Post a journal reflection (maybe 250 words or so) on what you think will be the main sections of your argument. Will you need to give any background, explanatory info (could be historical or technical, for example), and if so, what type of info? What additional info do you think you might need (based on a quick scan of the sources you have found)? What are the possible reasons people on different sides of the issue might use to support their position (briefly)? Have you decided your main claim (it’s fine if you haven’t yet; even if you think you have, be sure to try to keep your mind open as you discover more about your issue in your reading).
